It is located southwest of the University of Alberta’s main campus and was once the southern terminus of the Southwest Edmonton Radial Railway and is now served by the McKernan/Southwest Edmonton LRT Station.

Dr. Anne Anderson School
This school is named after author and teacher Anne Anderson who was instrumental in preserving the Cree language and promoting Métis heritage in Alberta and throughout Canada. In keeping with Dr. Anderson’s legacy of compassion and respect for everyone, the school provides regular and advanced placement programming with an intent of helping students achieve their goals and dreams by creating a structured academic environment that fosters high expectations. Archbishop Joseph MacNeil Catholic School
Archbishop Joseph MacNeil Catholic Elementary and Junior High School provides education from kindergarten through grade nine. Archbishop Joseph MacNeil Catholic School is a faith-filled Catholic learning community that focuses on Christ-centered creativity, faith, inquiry and love. Archbishop Joseph MacNeil was a friend to everyone and the school is based on his motto of, “Let us grow into Christ.” Archbishop MacNeil demonstrated through his words and actions that he was put here to support others and the staff, parent community and students believe they have been called to do the same. The school offers both advanced academic placement and a full athletic program.
Harry Ainlay High School
Harry Ainlay High School is operated by the Southwest Edmonton Public School System and provides a wide array of educational opportunities. Harry Ainlay is the largest high school by student population in Alberta with an average enrollment of almost 3,000 students. It is one of only three high schools in the Southwest Edmonton Public School System to provide a full French immersion program for all the school’s required core courses. Harry Ainlay High is also one of eight schools in the Southwest Edmonton Public School System that provides an International Baccalaureate diploma program. The school also has a full athletics department that offers 18 sports programs.

Jagare Ridge Golf Club
Just minutes from Southwest Edmonton, Jagare Ridge Golf Club is one of Southwest Edmonton’s premier golf opportunities that offers guests a challenging championship-level course in a glorious natural environment. The course was designed in the late 1990s with a focus on allowing the land to dictate the design and a registered member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses. Brilliantly designed golf cart paths take advantage of the landscapes natural beauty by meandering among seventy-foot cliffs, sixty-foot spruce trees and magnificent waterfalls. Derrick Golf and Winter Club
The Derrick Golf and Winter Club is a family-oriented private club featuring a plethora of activities for the whole family. Whitemud Creek Ravine South
Just off River Valley Road, Whitemud Ravine is a nature preserve in the middle of the city and despite its proximity to city streets it holds well over 100 species a wildlife. The old-growth forest is a great place to distance yourself from the city and unwind. It is home to deer, rabbits, squirrels, woodpeckers and falcons to name a few. The well-maintained dirt and gravel trails make for easy hiking and are rated as “easy.” Whitemud Creek Ravine South is a 5 km/3.1 mile round trip hike that takes 60 to 90 minutes to circumnavigate and is moderately flat with some gentle inclines. Mountain bikes are not allowed on the South trail, but there are some good biking trails further north. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash. Because this is an old-growth forest, bugs can be an issue so insect repellent is advised.
